The Rental/Renter Runaround

Being a full time REALTOR here in Jacksonville NC, I encounter people wanting to rent a home in the area almost daily.  Some of my colleagues refuse to work with renters and I admit there are times that I would prefer to not work with them myself.  Because, the average renter has no respect for my time or efforts.  The rental prospects seem to feel that we (REALTORS) are just sitting here waiting to go show them rentals whenever they get around to it.  Maybe they are afraid that we are going to hand them a bill when we are done looking or something but if they would just ask questions instead of making assumptions they would find that most REALTORS don’t mind working with renters, as long as they will communicate with them.

Here are some questions you should ask when looking for a rental home here in Onslow County.  When you speak to a REALTOR ask them if they can show you any rental on the market.  Ask them if they will require any compensation from you for showing you rentals.  Ask them anything that is concerning you regarding renting a home in the area.

So, renters, please treat the process of finding a home like the “business” that it is and show the REALTOR that is willing to take the time to show you some rental properties with some respect.  Their time is just as valuable as yours.  For the renters that are new to the area you have a huge resource in the REALTOR that you work with, they can show you the area, point out some of the local attractions, good restaurants, etc.  It can be a mutually beneficial relationship, if you do it right.
