You need to find a person that you understand, and that understands you and your needs as well as your expectations.  There are many agents to choose from, and they all have different levels of experience, skill and expertise.  Some agents really don’t care about what you want, they are just looking for the paycheck which comes at the end, when you go to closing and purchase a home.

So, ask a few questions.  Talk to friends and family, ask them if they have had any good or bad experiences with REALTORS and if they would recommend anyone.  Once you have a short list of REALTORS you want to “interview” talk to them.  You are actually “hiring” them to represent you in the purchase or sale of a property.  Ask them if they are available for any questions or concerns you will have along the way.  Or will they have an assistant call you with updates or questions?  Ask them how much experience they have and if they have any recommendations/references for you to contact.  If you are selling a property ask what the marketing plan is, where will the home be advertised and promoted.  If you are looking to buy a home, make sure that the person you choose will actually listen to what you are wanting and will help you find the right home….some agents will keep showing homes associated with a particular brand, if your agent doesn’t seem to be finding what you are asking for, or keeps pushing you to max out your budget you may need to fire that person and find someone else to help you.
